Book Club for Adults

Where Men Win Glory: The Odyssey of Pat Tillman by Jon Krakauer. New York: Doubleday, 2009.
Adult nonfiction.
Booktalk: Pat Tillman walked away from a multimillion-dollar National Football League contract to join the army after 9/11. In 2004, Pat Tillman was killed in Afghanistan and lauded as an American hero. What was kept secret from the public (and his family) was the Pat Tillman died from “friendly fire.” How did this disaster happen? What can we learn from Pat Tillman’s heroic death?
Note: Pat Tillman (1976-2004) led a fascinating life that may be surprising to readers. The author provides us with Tillman’s journals so we see a complex, erudite individual. Throughout the book, the author provides history of the development of the Al-Queda, the 9/11 attack, and the publicizing of Tillman’s death through the media via the White House. Great as a book club selection once it is in paperback. For a quick bio on the author, Jon Krakauer, go to the Random House bio page.
